Evaluation and quality
EVALUATION AND QUALITY.
The famous experiment PYGMALION clearly showed the impact of teacher´s expectation on the behavior and achievement of children.
In short, children come to school with different life experiences and expectations, and attitudes. Schools usually penalized through the assessment procedures. When penalized education was too often, then impacts Negatively on low morale=Demotivation. very often teachers use the same evaluation criteria for all students, No consideration students are different and diverse.
Maintaining a high expectation for everybody is essential!
Moreover, assessment of student´s abilities is often too frequently based on a subjective appreciation of physical appearance-behavior, language and parent´s educational level or family structure and social services received.
Teachers PRE-CONCEIVED notions and ideas on the behavior of students. These STEREOTYPES influence not only the teacher´s attitude and behavior but also curriculum, styles,..and so on.
Consequences of evaluation is a subjective judgment and they are a "dark side" to evaluation. If the evaluation in schooling serves as a mechanism of selection or classification, it constitutes an antisocial practice. The only way to counteract it is to promote Active Participation and to democratize the relationship in education. Meanwhile taking part in Decision making.
Pros and cons of evaluations:
A positive aspect it that evaluation should serve to inform and enhance the process, providing feedback on teaching strategies like a constructive and positive purpose.
A negative aspect is that ev is usually focused exclusively on the result of learning, rather than on the process.
We need to take into account not only the result. The process is more important because you can improve your action. In fact, before every process a pre-evaluation or diagnosis is essential.
Another important point to highlight is to do an external and internal assessment altogether.
Others aspects to be evaluated are:
1) people: students (family), teachers (staff), schools (department, community)
2) other aspects: textbook, curriculum, and content
In other words: As Aguado said, evaluation is not a merely summative action and some recommendations are:
-Essays with peers and cooperation
-criteria of Expectations
-Self- evaluation
-emphasized positives aspects.
